ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - MIDDLE SCHOOL
An innovative Dual Language Immersion education in a faith based setting |
Saint Alphonsus School is a private, coeducational, Catholic Elementary, and Middle School dedicated to nurturing our students’ academic excellence, faith development, and personal growth. From Transitional Kindergarten to Eighth Grade, we work with our supportive community to develop students intellectually, morally and spiritually. We integrate bilingual education, individualized private school setting, and well-rounded values-based teaching.
This school year, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students are experiencing Dual Language Immersion. Beginning in Fall 2021, the program will encompass grades TK-4. Students spend half the day learning in Spanish and half the day learning in English. By being taught academic subjects such as math, science, social studies and religion in each language, students will develop mastery of speaking, reading and writing in both. The program will grow by a grade every year, until the whole school participates in DLI. Our goal is for our students to become bilingual, biliterate and develop compassion for both cultures. |

COVID 19 UPDATE
The Saint Alphonsus School Administration, in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, continue to actively monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and update our response based on the guidance we receive from the Archdiocese and state and local Public Health agencies. This situation is very fluid and evolving each day and we want to assure you that the priority of our staff is the health and safety of our students.
Governor Gavin Newsom announced that all TK-12 schools in California will be held to new requirements for resuming in-person instruction. As a result, the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will open the 2020-21 school year with distance learning.
The criteria for the return to in-person instruction is based on the state’s local health jurisdiction (LHJ) monitoring list. If a county is placed on the state’s monitoring list, the schools in that county will not be permitted to conduct instruction in-person. Once the LHJ has been removed from the state’s monitoring list for 14 consecutive days, in-person instruction will be allowed to resume – this is when we will return to campuses.
Our school has been working extraordinarily hard to prepare to welcome back students this fall. We are so proud of the incredible efforts in planning for both in-person and distance, while simultaneously focusing on making campus safe for students and staff. Though the circumstances may not afford us the opportunity to start the school year in-person, our preparation efforts will pay-off when we are able to safely return to campus.
