Our Catholic School tradition began in 1945 founded on the principles of our patron saint, St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori: Faith, Knowledge, Discipline, Service Alphonsus Liguori was born on September 27, 1696, in a suburb of Naples, Italy. He was the eldest of eight children- four boys and four girls. His mother of Spanish descent and a gentle soul, and his father an Italian who was a commanding officer of a flagship of the Royal Navy. Alphonsus received an education in the humanities and in the study of civil and Church law and earned a double doctorate from the University of Naples. After having won many cases in court, he walked out of the court when he lost his first case. He became a priest and later founded the Redemptorist and then the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. Alphonsus wrote many books on morality, prayer, and his writing spanned a productive 50 years. |
